        Dr. Sharon Blackwell Jones has been an Assistant Professor and Faculty member for the past 20 years. Dr. Jones is also a licensed professional counselor, a Graduate of Penn State University and has experience consulting, working and teaching in the areas of Cultural Competence, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and Counseling Psychology. Her doctoral research focused on culturally competent experiential diversity training and Sharon has designed and delivered hundreds of diversity-related programs in academic, private sector, nonprofit, community, and volunteer settings. 
        Over the past 25 years, Dr. Jones has taught all university level courses in diversity, counseling skills, drug and alcohol counseling and practicum for individual counseling and groups. In addition, she has served as a high school counselor in both D.C., and Richmond, Virginia. She has served as a consultant to numerous schools in Georgia and Virginia, most recently Radford City Schools on developing cultural competence and has spent the past 18 years helping school systems deal with adjusting social climates and cultural competency development.  
        Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Jones has adapted her workshops to an online format as to present via Zoom and various other online platforms. She has since led multiple book groups on White Fragility, Whistling Vivaldi, and How to Be An Antiracist, as well as workshops on Appreciating Differences, Microaggressions, Wellness in the Pandemic, and Safe Zone training. 
​        Areas of research and professional interest include Cultural Competence training, LGBTQ+ issues, as well as Drug and Alcohol Counseling. Dr. Jones has been an active advocate for LGBTQ+ students and has helped develop and led safe zone trainings for health agencies, university communities and in local schools. 
        Dr. Jones and her husband, Coach Mike Jones (University of North Carolina Greensboro Men’s Basketball Coach) have two sons, and reside in Greensboro, NC.
